About the course

Learning how to play a new instrument can be really daunting, but I’m here to make it easier. Come play the drums with me! This is the second video in the beginner drummer series, and we will be expanding on what we learned last time. We’ll start with some sticking to warm up our wrists, learn how to do a buzz roll, and then practice separating the movement of our hands and feet to create multilayered sounds. Finally, we’ll move onto beginner rock beats so you can play along to some of your favorite pop or rock songs and work on some killer fills. A lot of today’s lesson will focus on sixteenth notes. You can actually make it through this whole video without a drum set, drum pads, or even drum sticks. Because we’re mainly just working on hand and foot coordination, feel free to just use your hands on your lap and tap your foot on the floor to practice the beats and patterns. Get creative with how you practice and know that it’s not about starring in a rock concert right now- it’s about feeling comfortable moving your hands and feet at the same time to create different sounds. You got this! No matter how old you are, there is always time to start a new instrument; it’s never too late!

Instructor

I attended the Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn, NY where I was able to explore my multiple different passions through engaging classes and fun clubs. I am currently on a gap year but am excited to attend Northwestern University next fall with an intended major in Environmental Chemistry.

Throughout my time in high school, I tutored many students in chemistry. As early as 10th grade, my chemistry teacher recommended me to the school’s peer tutoring program because she saw how deeply I was grasping and understanding the information being taught. I have worked with students on homework, test prep, and lab report editing.

In addition to tutoring high school chemistry, I have worked with kindergarteners and first graders on reading skills and comprehension, so I feel confident working
