About the course

When learning how to speak Chinese (Mandarin), there are four tones. Mastering these tones are very helpful for pronouncing characters correctly! The wrong tone could have a completely different meaning. This video will go through the four tones and offer tips to pronounce and remember the four tones. I will demonstrate how your mouth should look like when pronouncing the tones and which way your voice should go. I will also repeat the four tones again and again so you will have lots of chances to practice. We with also review everything we have learned by figuring out which of the four tones go with all the characters of the numbers 1 to 10. This will help us pronounce the numbers accurately, too! Let's get started and learn Mandarin together!

Instructor

Hello! My name is Yan Li and I am a teacher. I have taught as a student teacher in Boston for 4 years and I tutor in China over the summers. I am from Guangzhou, China and New York City. I am currently in my last year of studying elementary education at Boston College Lynch School of Education and Human Development. I am also enrolled in the Master's program for Curriculum and Instruction at Boston College, which I will complete in the upcoming year. My favorite part of teaching is getting to know students and creating course materials that engage students to make learning fun and accessible. I believe that each student is fully capable of understanding material. It just depends on how the material is presented to them. My goal is to meet each student where they are at and support them.
