About the course
Have you ever watched or read about scientists who travel the world to study animals in their natural environments? In this class, we will learn about fieldwork and the ways it is similar and different from other kinds of science. We will think about what goes into studying animals in the wild, practice collecting our own data, and learn about a very influential researcher- everything you need to prepare you to make observations in your own backyard!

Hello! My name is Sofia and I am a recent graduate of Columbia University, where I studied evolutionary biology. After graduation, I spent almost a year in Costa Rica doing behavioral field work with white faced capuchin monkeys. I am currently completing my Master’s in Teaching at New York University while working as a middle school science teacher. Previously, I have also done field work in Kenya and worked at the American Museum of Natural History.
