About the course
Are you curious about the protests you may be hearing about? Are you someone who wants to change the world? In this class, we will learn all about activism in America through the lens of different movements that have been going on for years. After an initial class that will introduce us to activism, in each class we will learn about a different social movement, including the climate justice, anti-racism, disability, farmworkers, LGBTQ and women's movements. We'll hear stories about ordinary people becoming leaders, creative activism strategies, power dynamics, and the successes and challenges of movements. This class is meant to get you curious and excited about the possibilities to enact change. Remember: activism is for everybody!
Instructor
Hi, I'm Leta Selmanović. I recently graduated with a B.S. in Environmental Studies at Cornell University. Since then, I have been an after school Youth Educator at public schools across New York City, teaching youth about urban agriculture, cooking and environmental stewardship. I am also passionate about social justice activism and organizing. I am eager to inspire students about what is possible, help them access their potential, and encourage them to grow!
