About the course
Immerse yourself in the world of slam poetry and craft your own original poems. If you ever thought that poetry was stuffy and unrelatable, you haven't heard of slam poetry. I can show you how anybody can be a poet and become a part of a supportive community of creatives. We'll go through a brief history of slam poetry and we'll be on our way to creating our own amazing poems.
Instructor
Hi! I'm Sarah. I'm a recent graduate of Teachers College, Columbia University, where I earned my Master's in the Teaching of English. Having studied English literature and psychology at the University of California, Irvine, I spent the last five years working with youth to become stronger, more confident readers and writers. Now residing in New York City, I hope to foster the same excitement and enthusiasm for reading and writing that was instilled in me as a young student. Currently, I am exploring ways to disrupt the traditional English classroom and bring new kinds of content to the forefront.
